Tottenham are now planning a new move to sign Andy Robertson in a bargain deal

Tottenham Hotspur are now looking to sign the Champions League-winning star in a deal this summer.

Tudor: It was “necessary” to replace Kinsky

When Tottenham fans couldn’t believe it could get any worse, they saw their team trail by three goals within 15 minutes against Atletico Madrid and their goalkeeper was sent off within 17 minutes.

It was a brutal first 20 minutes for the Lilywhites and Antonin Kinsky, who gave Atletico Madrid two quick chances inside his own box.

After replacing the out-of-form Guglielmo Vicario, some may be happy to see Kinsky and happy that Igor Tudor made a bold decision. To say that the choice has been reversed would be a dramatic understatement, however.

Despite receiving criticism for taking Kinsky out of the game after his mistakes, Tudor stood by his decision fully, telling reporters: “In 15 years of coaching, I’ve never done that. It was necessary to save the boy, to save the team.

“A wonderful situation, nothing to comment on, you will see. Before the game, it was the right decision to make at the moment as it is. Pressure on Vicario, another competition, Toni is a very good goalkeeper. So, for me, it was the right decision.

“I explained to Toni, and I also spoke afterwards, that he is a good person and a good goalkeeper. Unfortunately, it happened in this big game of mistakes.

“He regretted it. He made an excuse to the team. The team is with him. Me too. I was talking to him, he understands that time. He understands why (he had to) leave. So, as I said before, he is a very good goalkeeper. All of us. It’s not about one player, so it’s happened.”

It’s not easy for Spurs either. Next up, Anfield is waiting and facing a consistent Liverpool side, getting a win will be a huge task – especially if one of their transfer targets takes off.

Tottenham are planning a second move for Robertson

Regardless of the result at Anfield, Spurs will look to Andy Robertson. According to Football Insider, Tottenham are now planning a move to sign Robertson as a free agent when his Liverpool contract expires this summer.

TNT Sports analyst Darren Fletcher saw the exchange.

The move will depend on their ability to avoid relegation, then convincing the 32-year-old to join – something they failed to do in the January transfer window.

“Obviously there was interest there – there were discussions with groups of both clubs. But the decision was that I wanted to stay. We stayed at Liverpool and it was a decision that was made. I didn’t commit.” (Robertson)

Although he still lags behind Milos Kerkez in Liverpool’s pursuit, Robertson could be Tottenham’s best player. The £160,000-a-week defender will fill a leadership gap at the club as a Champions League and Premier League winner, while also adding plenty of quality.

As free transfers go, Robertson will be one of the talking points of the summer if the Lilywhites can lure him to North London.
