Nottingham Forest have offered the captain a five-year contract to join them amid a new bid

Nottingham Forest’s interest in signing Givairo Read shows no signs of slowing down, as the Premier League club continue their pursuit of one of the brightest young defenders in Dutch football.

Forest have already seen two offers rejected by Feyenoord this summer, but that has not weakened their interest.

Instead, the club continued negotiations while exploring the best way to convince the Eredivisie side to part with one of their top players.

As Oliver Glasner continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new campaign, strengthening the right-back has become a clear priority.

Read enjoyed an incredibly successful season last year.

The 20-year-old has established himself as Feyenoord’s first-choice defender over the past two seasons, producing a string of mature performances in the domestic and European competitions.

Comfortable going forward but equally reliable in defence, he quickly gained a reputation for his speed, power and quality.

His impressive displays also saw him captain Feyenoord during their recent pre-season friendly, underscoring the trust that has been placed in him despite his youth.

Read had a combined 25/26 due to a serious hamstring injury, which saw him play just 20 games across all competitions, but the quality is there.

Nottingham Forest offer Read five-year contract to join with third bid made

According to Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof, Forest have now stepped up their efforts again.

Blaauwhof reports that the Premier League side are ‘hot on their heels’ over the transfer and are preparing a third bid for the Dutch defender. He went on to say that the five-year contract is waiting for Read if it ends.

The latest update also follows another important development.

Voetbal International reports Forest’s third offer is worth around £21 million after previous bids were rejected by Feyenoord. However, the Dutch club are still holding firm, believing that Read is very important and are always reluctant to lose a player who has a contract until 2029.

The report also claims that the defender is attracted by the chance to play in the Premier League, leaving Forest with an important decision to make.

They can improve their proposal again or turn their attention elsewhere if Feyenoord continue to resist all the way. However, given the team’s persistence throughout the window, there is little to show that they are ready to abandon negotiations.

From Feyenoord’s point of view, this situation is understandable.

Read has developed into one of the most exciting young defenders in the Eredivisie, and signing him in the weeks before the new season would be far from straightforward.

With a long-term contract in place, the Rotterdam club are still in full control of negotiations. Forest, however, seems equally determined.
