Xtra is suddenly canceling pre-orders for its banned DJI Osmo Pocket 4 Pro camera

Xtra, the camera company that came out of nowhere last year, is canceling pre-orders and issuing refunds for its upcoming Xtra Muse 2 Pro gimbal camera.

“After reviewing our product and our readiness to launch, XTRA has decided to suspend the current Early Bird program,” the company said. in the statement included on its website and in emails sent to clients viewed by Mashable. “Because we cannot guarantee a reliable timeline for the launch at this time, we do not believe that customers’ funds should remain on hold.”

Xtra customers put down a $20 pre-order on the Xtra Muse 2 Pro to receive a pre-order and early bird discount of $60 on the camera when it goes on sale. Along with the cash back, Xtra is also issuing a 10 percent coupon to customers that can be used on their current line of products.

Despite taking pre-orders, Xtra never shared a possible launch date for the camera, which was a major point of criticism from customers across social media.

Why did Xtra cancel pre-orders for the camera?

Xtra means refund it was created for “product and implementation readiness” and did not provide any other explanation. However, the cancellation of the previous order comes shortly after the FCC announced an investigation into eight companies, including Xtra.

DJI, a famous Chinese drone and action camera company, has been successfully banned in the US As Mashable. previously reportedthe ban began late last year after Trump’s FCC cited national security concerns and data surveillance issues. DJI products that were sold before the ban can still be sold now. Consumers with DJI devices can still use them. However, the US government has not yet approved any new DJI products, so they cannot be imported into the country.

Enter Xtra. Xtra arrived on the scene last year with its line of cameras that look like DJI cameras. The eight companies under investigation were previously asked to provide information on which products they sell should be on the banned list. However, none of these companies have apparently responded to the FCC. As a result, the FCC seeks information and charges a $25,000 fine against each of them, including Xtra.
