Newcastle have stepped up the race to sign Danilo after opening talks

Newcastle United’s search for a midfielder is likely to be an ongoing affair until deadline day.
The Magpies look set to lose Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal in the coming weeks, following Sandro Tonali’s big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur. Eddie Howe has been forced to watch and plan for life without his two biggest stars.
An arrival like Aladji Bamba will help, but getting another name over the line in the form of Danilo should be a priority at St James’ Park.

Aladji Bamba |
Newcastle are quietly chasing Bamba and no one will blame them after a year of being hijacked by other clubs. The AS Monaco man would be a great addition, especially off the ball. The new player won 9.1 duels per game in Ligue 1 last season – more than any other midfielder. |

Joelinton |
You may be looking around and wondering what happened to the stalwart midfielder who made Newcastle proud, but Joelinton still has work to do. Alongside the new pairing, the Brazilian will be more important than ever for Howe, as the Magpies adjust to life without Sandro Tonali and Guimaraes. |

Danilo |
Joelinton’s compatriot can certainly help in that department. Although Newcastle have yet to agree a deal to sign Danilo, reports suggest he could return to the Premier League to build a strong defensive partnership with Bamba at St James’ Park. The Brazilian also has an eye for goals, having scored seven for Botafogo this year. |
Danilo already has Premier League experience under his belt and is now hoping to return to English football. Newcastle can give him just that.
Newcastle fueled Danilo’s race
As reported by Brazil’s UOL and relayed by Sport Witness, Danilo’s agent is now pushing for him to join Newcastle and has put the Magpies as the clear choice. The Tyneside club are now leading the race for his signature and talks are already underway.
It’s a huge development for Newcastle, but as they know more than most, the deal is far from done. Now they have to turn their connection into a gift for the former Nottingham Forest man, who is all the more important to return to the Premier League.

Regarding replacing Guimaraes, it is clear that Danilo has the qualities. Costing just £17m due to a release clause, the Brazilian has an eye for goal as a Newcastle man and has no problem working tirelessly out of possession.
Despite the rumors swirling around the Magpies’ midfield, the Botafogo man is a player to consider. He wants to return to the Premier League, his agents prefer to go to Tyneside and he can replace Guimaraes. Danilo ticks all the boxes.
