Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion have kept themselves busy, having spent more than £200m on new arrivals.
The Premier League duo haven’t finished spending their money yet. They now join Aston Villa in the race to sign young midfielder Ousmane Diabate.

Honesty |
It’s been a summer for midfielders in the Premier League and Aston Villa recently joined the club, agreeing a deal to sign Johan Manzambi before selling Youri Tielemans to Manchester United. Now, they have Ousmane Diabate in their sights, but face competition from Spurs and Brighton, who are also eyeing the youngster. |
|
Finance |
In a summer full of ridiculous fees, Diabate will probably come in cheaper. He is a star of the future and will prioritize minutes above anything else if he wants to leave Turkey’s Genclerbirligi. |
|
Testing |
This guy has already been compared to N’Golo Kante, such is the way he works as a midfield destroyer. Whether he follows in the Frenchman’s footsteps by joining the Premier League as an unknown gem remains to be seen. |
|
Impact |
Diabate won’t steal the headlines right away, but it would represent a stunning coup for whoever wins the race for his signature with a strong interest in his arrival. |
At the age of 18, Diabate quickly became a wanted man, as a race broke out between several Premier League sides.
Tottenham completes personal evaluation on Diabate
According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham have now completed a personal evaluation of Diabate alongside Aston Villa, Brighton and Brentford. The 18-year-old midfielder is quickly becoming a player to watch and is ready to give the green light provided he gets the proper game time to improve.
Whether that puts the Spurs at a disadvantage is a big question. They have already spent big to sign Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali. Game time will come at a premium for any options outside of the first team setup as a result and that could force Diabate to prioritize other clubs.
Why Diabate should prioritize Brighton’s move
If Diabate wants to develop as a young player, there is no better place to do that in English football than Brighton these days. The Seagulls have become experts at recruiting young stars from further afield and turning them into big-money players that top six clubs often snap up.
It’s a tough plan and one that has seen them trade almost every star over the years, but it also works almost every season.
As rumors continue to swirl around Carlos Baleba, Diabate could be the perfect option to land at Sussex and make an immediate switch this summer. Brighton could need a midfielder and look to improve. A perfect match.
