Rangers are threatening to abandon the sale of Chermiti after Lyon’s £15m offer

Rangers have been one of the busiest clubs in Europe so far this summer. They welcomed a new manager in Derek McInnes and have welcomed five new faces since then.
They didn’t end there, with rumors still linking them with the move of players like Elijah Just.
However, it is not the only thing that enters their mind. A number of current stars have also been linked with a move to a major reshuffle at Ibrox, and that includes Youssef Chermiti.
The striker is dividing opinion at Ibrox and an offer from Ligue 1 side Lyon has already prompted a response from Rangers.

Honesty |
Everyone has a price and the latest report says that Rangers want to keep Chermiti, that situation is only there to increase the price of Lyon’s offer. The French club already know that the Gers will go for sale if they do not increase their €18 million (£15m) bid. |
|
Finance |
It is not clear how much Rangers want that offer to be increased, but their current record turnover is £19.6m. It is entirely possible that they will want the same price to sell Chermiti. |
|
Understanding |
Chermiti has been inconsistent in his first campaign in Scotland, but he has been the man in the big games – scoring seven goals against Celtic and Hearts. That, alone, should make him very valuable to those at Ibrox. |
|
Impact |
This agreement can go two ways. If Lyon raise their offer, they could get Chermiti and Rangers could put themselves in the market for the striker. If that offer fails to materialise, however, the Gers could be happy with their choice going forward. |
The 49ers put the Rangers in a position to stand firm with their asking price. Now, it’s up to Lyon to match it, as negotiations continue.
Lyon presents the offer of Youssef Chermiti
As reported by Foot Mercato, and relayed by Sports Witness, Rangers are threatening to abandon the sale of Chermiti after Lyon’s €18m (£15m) offer.
The Gers are unwilling to part with their striker at that price and want to close in on their £20m sale of Calvin Bassey.
Whether their stubbornness is designed to send a message to Lyon to leave or just a rush to get big money is unclear.
It puts the movement in a certain position, and the ball is now very full in the Lyon stadium.
The guardians have the right to maintain the condition of the sale
Gone are the days when Rangers allowed themselves to get low balls in the transfer market. There is enough financial stability from the 49ers to get money at a fair price and the Ibrox chiefs are taking full advantage.
It is also worth noting that Chermiti would not have been an easy man to replace. The striker is still only 22 years old, scored 15 goals in all competitions last season and proved to be a thorn in Rangers’ biggest rivals. He wasn’t always changing, but the power was there.

On paper, all signs point to a player that Rangers should sell for a record price and no less. Whether Lyon match that price or watch Gers go now is the big question.

The big-money World Cup star could sign for Rangers and become Tavernier 2.0
Glasgow Rangers are reportedly interested in a deal to sign potential star forward James Tavernier.
