Chris Mannix Destroys Frank Sanchez’s Chances Against Moses Itauma

Chris Mannix believes Moses Itauma should challenge Frank Sanchez for the world title if he beats Filip Hrgovic on August 29, saying it will end the year for the unbeaten British heavyweight. Sergio Mora also endorsed the match, calling it an interesting fight despite Sanchez’s recent restart.

“I love that fight,” Mora told DAZN Boxing “in two general terms.

“I like that style matchup. I like that he’s going to come and fight. It’s going to be another fighter that fights from that southpaw position and moves up. So, I like those two names.”

Mannix pointed to the heavyweight title picture as another reason why the fight makes sense, noting that Itauma’s path to the contest may have changed as Fabio Wardley is expected to defend his WBA title against Daniel Dubois in a rematch.

“I think it’s a big fight for him and a chance to win the world title, because there was a lot of uncertainty,” said Mannix. “He had a chance to win the world title, but his stablemate, Fabio Wardley, held that belt. We think Wardley and Daniel Dubois are going to take it back. So it could be closed.”

Although Mannix praised Sanchez for his impressive outing of Richard Torrez Jr. in June, he doesn’t see the Cuban presenting much of an obstacle if Itauma gets past Hrgovic.

“If he beats Hrgovic and goes on to beat Frank Sanchez, that’s a good year for Moses Itauma,” said Mannix. “If we look at this the right way, I don’t give Sanchez much of a shot against Moses Itauma. I think Sanchez got a good shot against Richard Torrez. All credit to him. But I see Frank Sanchez, and I see a guy with no knees.”

The biggest obstacle remains Hrgovic. The Croatian challenger is widely regarded as the toughest opponent of Itauma’s career and represents a significant jump in the competition. A convincing victory will strengthen the case that the 21-year-old is ready to fight for the heavyweight world title later this year.
