NHL rumors: St. Louis Blues, the Washington Capitals, the New Jersey Devils, and the Ottawa Senators

What will St. Louis Blues now?
St. Louis Blues traded Jordan Kyrou to the Washington Capitals for the 16th overall pick, Connor McMichael and Milton Gästrin.
As The Athletic’s Jeremy Rutherford notes, the Blues now hold four picks in the first round, including the 11th, 15th, 16th, and 29th.
History shows that drafting three or more times in the first round does not end well. The expectation is that the Blues will move some of these options.
Steven Ellis: “I St. Louis Blue they had three picks at No. 16, and the number of the first four players. I don’t see that being permanent. But that draft money is crazy.”
Marco D’Amico: “After the Kyrou trade, i St. Louis Blue now with four 1st-round picks in the 2026 NHL Draft:
11 of
At fifteen
16
29 of
Being told that it is unlikely to stay that way.”

NHL Rumors: DeBrusk, Pettersson, Raddysh, Carlson, Zacha, Hischier, Thomas, Benn, and Ovechkin
There has been turmoil and uncertainty surrounding the Capitals and Alex Ovechkin. However, this move may indicate that he will be back to sign for another season or two.
Jim Biringer: “With Jordan Kyrou heading to Washington and Connor McMichael heading to St.
Is this move enough to get Alex Ovechkin to re-sign this summer? He has been waiting to see what Washington does. #allcaps”
Sammi Silber: The Capitals have just over $23 million in cap space to work with. After Connor McMichael was traded, they could look to add another left winger. Ryan Leonard said earlier in the season that he is comfortable playing left tackle if needed.

The New Jersey Devils are not over
The Sunny Mehta Era in New Jersey started with a splash as the Devils sent Simon Nemec to the Calgary Flames. They received a conditional first, one in 2027 (Vegas), one in 2028 (Colorado), and a second-round pick in the 206 NHL Draft they have. The Devils are looking to move on from that pick and may turn one or both to improve their roster.
Keep an eye on the Devil as a major player this week.
The return for this trade includes two future first-round picks and a second-round pick. It opens up a lot of options for new GM Sunny Mehta going forward.

The Senators are still looking at defense
Even after acquiring William Eklund from San Jose, the Ottawa Senators aren’t done, as they still want to move some of those picks to help their roster thrive now.
Steve Staios has no intention of sitting back and waiting to develop his program, according to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen. They were looking for an elite forward, someone to play with Tim Stutzle and a defenseman in the front four.
NHL Rumors: Ottawa Senators Want to Make a Big Splash This Offseason
“My goal is to work in the market, to continue to add to a strong, determined team that continues to go in the right direction. We have made the playoffs in consecutive years, we have not had a result in the playoffs until now, but I think if, if you look at it honestly, teams like ours and the way they are built, we gave ourselves a chance,” said States.
