Spurs are in talks with the club to sign the £73m Premier League star

Last year, Tottenham Hotspur signed Mohammed Kudus for £55m. It was one of the few marquee deals Spurs managed to get over the line.
However, typical of how the campaign played out, the exciting striker spent his first year on the treatment table.
You name them, they were injured last season. Kudus was another long-term absentee alongside the likes of Dejan Kulusveski and James Maddison.
Losing that amount of creativity is amazing. Is it any wonder that the Lilywhites find themselves at the bottom of the table?
Regardless of those injuries, however, they should not have been down there.
Kudus is currently not at the World Cup with Ghana but it is hoped that he will be ready and waiting to start on the first day of the 2026/27 season. He could be joined by another exciting midfielder in the starting XI.
Spurs are lining up plans to sign a new player
Much of the talk this past week is about midfielders coming to Tottenham.
Spurs are chasing two big signings in West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali. Tonali’s journey is believed to be on the upswing as the player has reportedly agreed a £275k-a-week deal to move to north London.
However, Roberto De Zerbi and Co must not forget about the flanks. In that regard, they have considered another West Ham attack to land Crysencio Summerville while a desperate move for Marcus Rashford is being considered. Manchester City’s Savinho is the first target as well and talks are ongoing for that.
Interviews are also being played on Cody Gakpo in Liverpool. That is according to TEAMtalk, which reports the latest on the future of this Dutch player at Anfield this week.

Reporter Graeme Bailey notes that Spurs are already in club-to-club talks about a move to the Netherlands as they consider signing Savinho’s replacement.
Gakpo has been discussed extensively by De Zerbi and the club’s recruitment team and is said to be a player of great interest.
Tottenham are talking to Liverpool as they intend to seek clarity on the future of this player. It is worth noting that he has concerns about his long-term stay on Merseyside due to the emergence of youngster Rio Ngumoha.
Previous reports have suggested that Spurs could be prepared to pay around £73m to secure his signature.
How does Cody Gakpo compare to Mohammed Kudus
It was a shame that Kudus missed the second half of the season due to injury. He started life at Tottenham in style.
Even if the numbers don’t give it away – he has scored three goals and assisted six in 26 games – the Ghanaian midfielder has been more electric than that suggests.
What the former West Ham man brings to the team is an incredible ability to run away from opponents and escape his marker. Last term, the 25-year-old ranked in the top 5% of the same players in Europe’s top five leagues in terms of efficiency per 90 minutes at 3.03.
Spurs fans may not be too enthusiastic about the idea of joining Gakpo but he is a proven Premier League talent and if it’s goals they want, the Dutchman could be a better option than Savinho.
During Liverpool’s 2024/25 title campaign, the striker netted 18 goals in all competitions to stamp his mark as a wide player.
Although the 27-year-old bagged only nine times in 2025/26, he was still dangerous and like Kudus, he is a real threat in one v one situations.

The truth is that Gakpo, like Kudus, can be a player who can improve Spurs quickly and efficiently. When it comes to handling the ball – one of the Ghanaian’s strengths – they are very similar.
As a result, the thought of two players playing on opposing sides is a truly exciting prospect.
Of course, another option in Rashford may prove too much. He may have scored 30 goals in one season for Manchester United once. However, Gakpo is not a bad player at all. There’s a reason he played such an important role in Liverpool’s Premier League title win last year.

Cody Gakpo isn’t the only exciting winner on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar this summer.
