West Brom are keen to sign the Southampton striker

West Bromwich Albion have left no stone unturned when it comes to conducting their business in the summer transfer window.

Already, the Baggies have secured two first-team players for next season in the Championship in Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Barney Stewart, both of whom have improved the attacking tactics of James Morrison.

As well as doing everything possible to improve their attack immediately, with Morrison’s sights set on a move to the Premier League, the capture of Carter Pinington from Liverpool has been sealed, with the future in mind, as the centre-back has joined the U21s.

Unsurprisingly, despite getting these three first-door signings, more are expected to be bought in the summer, as Morrison continues to be backed in the market to try and finally lift the West Midlands side back to the big time.

West Brom are very keen on signing another

It will be hard to expect the new coach to become a promoted manager any time soon, given this is the Scotsman’s first full-time team.

But, if signings continue to come through the door at this rapid pace, the expectation for the Hawthorns from Baggies supporters will be for their favorite side to be in the top six next May, with Cameron Archer now reportedly on their radar.

Indeed, according to West Brom reporter Steve Tudgay, Archer will leave Southampton after this off-season, with Morrison “very keen” to snap up the unsettled striker.

It might be considered too much on West Brom’s end to go after another striker, with both Morgan and Stewart already on their books, but with the former Falkirk man’s lack of experience in the English game worrying, the acquisition of Walsall-born talent could give the Baggies a quick boost.

Why Archer would be better than Stewart

This statement is not intended to diminish Stewart’s goals for Falkirk, as the Scotland U21 international has made four appearances for the national team, scoring 12 of his 20 goals so far, in action at Falkirk Stadium.

Still, it will be a learning opportunity for the 22-year-old to make the jump from the Scottish Premiership to the brutal demands of the Championship, where Morgan – who featured in last season’s League One campaign with Peterborough United – also needs patience from the Baggies faithful, as a promising 20-year-old.

Archer, on the other hand, will arrive with plenty of Championship experience already in his back pocket, with six Premier League goals already under his belt.

Although he has not been successful in recent times in St. Mary’s, was still seen as dangerous in the Championship last season from limited minutes, seven goals have been collected, in only 996 minutes of play.

In total, the EFL’s hottest player has 22 goals and ten assists to shout about in 70 outings in the tough division, with Archer living up to his reputation as a “good” finisher given by James Quinn, who coached the 24-year-old at Solihull Moors, in the second division.

He also excelled in the Premier League’s promotion-chasing campaign earlier, with 11 goals in just 23 games for Middlesbrough in the 2022/23 season, which saw Boro reach the coveted play-offs.

Stewart doesn’t have the same wealth of experience under his belt, with a striker of Archer’s caliber to draw from, no doubt helping the green Scotsman in his continued pursuit as an exciting attacking threat.

Hopefully Stewart will continue to be successful in England, as he arrives highly regarded by Falkirk, having collected the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Young Player of the Year award last season.

But, for immediate results in a possible promotion race, securing Archer could be the next purchase, as West Brom’s squad continues to be reshaped this summer in Morrison’s favour.
