Rangers could see a bid accepted for the £12m star

Glasgow Rangers officially confirmed the appointment of Derek McInnes as their new manager earlier this week, after Danny Rohl completed his move away from Ibrox.
The new German manager will be the new manager of Austria’s RB Salzburg, after less than a year in Glasgow, and he was soon replaced by the Scottish tactician.
Rangers wasted no time at the start of the season after finishing third in the Scottish Premiership in 2025/26, signing Lawrence Shankland and appointing McInnes.
Another major task that the club still needs to do is to replace James Tavernier, in terms of signing a new right-back and finding the next team captain.
At right back, the Gers have been linked with an interest in bringing Scotland’s Nathan Patterson back to Ibrox from Everton for a second time.

Signing a right-back is the first step to fill Tavernier’s vacancy, as they also need to find a new captain, either by signing one or getting a current player to step up.
Now, the Light Blues have been told how much it would cost to sign the star who could come to Ibrox to replace the veteran defender as the next captain.
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live, journalist Keith Jackson suggested that a £12m bid would not be enough for Rangers to see an offer accepted for Bologna star Lewis Ferguson.
Former Gers midfielder Jamie Murphy says the Scot would be the “perfect” signing for McInnes, who he worked with at Aberdeen, but it won’t be a cheap deal to complete.
Jackson said: “Ferguson, [Bologna] they were getting mega offers. His value has gone down because he is not getting the game. The best price you could get, and you would be doing very well, would be £12million.”
It remains to be seen if this link is more than optimistic speculation on their part or if £12m is a fee they are not willing to pay, but the star midfielder could be a serious addition to the club if they can get a deal over the line in the coming weeks.
Why Lewis Ferguson could be the next Rangers captain
If you look at what boxes need to be ticked to become the next Rangers captain after Tavernier, Ferguson stands out as the best man to take the belt if he signs.
He has bagged the belt at Bologna in three of his four seasons in Italy, a feat for a Scotsman traveling abroad to discover a new league and a new language. That speaks to his leadership qualities.
The 26-year-old star has also shown that he can handle the pressure at the big stages, as evidenced by his performance for Haiti in the recent World Cup, which indicates that he will be able to handle the pressure of playing at Ibrox.

He caught the eye in his World Cup debut earlier this month, conceding the ball seven times in 90 minutes as a midfielder, and was leading in his defensive plays.
His performance should not have come as a surprise, however, as he has proven himself in one of Europe’s biggest leagues, scoring 15 goals in 106 games for Bologna in Italy’s top flight since leaving Aberdeen in 2022.
Ferguson’s experience in Scotland is another reason why he is the ideal man to take over as captain at Ibrox, as he has played 145 Premiership games in his career and would not need time to adapt to the demands of the country and the league.
On top of that, the Bologna star is a Rangers fan, with his father and uncle both playing for the club, and knows what it takes to succeed at Ibrox and the expectations the fans place on the players, having been a supporter himself.
Therefore, the Light Blues, even if they are not interested at this point in time, should make a move to combine McInnes with Ferguson in the summer, because he will be the perfect place for Tavernier to captain the team next season and beyond.
