The £85m star wants to sign for Spurs

When it comes to Tottenham Hotspur, they have been accused of lacking ambition and hunger to really go to the next level.

Sure, their platform is probably the best in the country but it’s sad that they don’t show the same level of ambition in the stock market.

They lack the pulling power of their competitors. Arsenal have gone a long way to strengthen their squad in recent years. The £105m addition of Declan Rice was a huge moment in their bid to win the Premier League title.

That’s exactly how a great team should work. They should be able to lure top quality players at this level to the club. At Spurs, it was a very different story.

However, is all that about to change?

Spurs are lining up their biggest move in history

The Lilywhites have made a good start to the summer transfer window with two moves already wrapped up.

After finishing 17th in a row for the season, manager Roberto De Zerbi said no holidays would be taken and it looks like that was the case.

Behind the scenes, the recruiting team has been hard at work and has completed deals for two defenders; Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson. Signed on a free transfer, it represents an excellent signing, not only from a business point of view but also from a football point of view.

However, the money will have to be used carefully. Fortunately, they are working hard on other moves. Jan Paul van Hecke could be the next signing but they will have to increase their offer as they have seen a series of rejection requests for the Dutchman.

Whatever they pay for a defender, they are unlikely to pay Sandro Tonali. Yes, the Italian is actually on the club’s radar.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Lilywhites have opened talks with the Italian over a move. Those discussions have so far been described as ‘positive’ and although no contact between the club and the team has yet taken place, they can be expected to follow.

Spurs are pushing hard to seal the move and the player is believed to be open to moving to north London to join Spurs.

Sharing more news about the upcoming deal, Fabrizio Romano said on YouTube: “Tottenham wants to follow him. Roberto De Zerbi wants him. They come from the same city in Italy, Brescia, so there is a very good connection. They are very willing to sign him. He is willing to go and open to join Tottenham, even outside of European football.”

A star. That’s what Spurs need right now. However, they need more than that but it would help steps to sign real top talent.

Within two years of each other, Tottenham saw Harry Kane and Heung-min Son both leave. It was a great loss.

Ange Postecoglou may have guided them to the top of the Europa League but at home they have been embarrassed. Kane and Son both watched from afar as Spurs lost.

Changing them this summer feels important. It is suspected that they have held discussions that they want Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus and many midfielders are being watched, including Malick Fofana from Lyon, Cody Gakpo from Liverpool and Savinho from Manchester City.

However, the biggest move of all will be Tonali. It costs £85m, it will break their current transfer record and in the process, they will have their famous talent, a player who can take them to the next level, just like Kane did for many years in the white of Spurs.

Sure, the Italian may not be a center forward but he has an aura about him. You know how beautiful he is. Tonali would arrive and quickly be crowned the best player at the club. This is a rice-like signing for Spurs.

Arsenal owner Josh Kroenke hailed the England man’s acquisition as a “big moment” for the project. It was one that helped them break the glass ceiling. Within a few years they were Premier League winners and Champions League finalists.

Spurs are obviously very far behind in their cycle but it will be their ‘big moment’, a signing that makes the league sit up and take notice in all the right ways. You can hardly say that about any Spurs move in the last few years.

So, what makes him a special player? Well, hailed as “one of the best midfielders in the world” by his agent Beppe Riso, he has been in the spotlight in the Premier League for a while now.

At 26 years old, the Italian is in his own hands and will solve many of the problems Spurs have in midfield.

One of the biggest problems was the lack of ability to advance the play. Well, Tonali’s 6.12 carries per 90 are better than any Spurs managed midfielder last season. The best midfielder for them this time is Pape Matar Sarr with 5.56 in 90.

In terms of chance creation, Tonali also outscored every other Spurs midfielder with 1.13 chances created per 90. Conor Gallagher topped the charts for midfielders back in north London with 0.98.

Usually when you think of a superstar, it’s a forward like Kane or Son. However, Tonali, with his pedigree, reputation and quality, could eventually help replace the star power they left behind.
