Spurs could replace Sarr and Bissouma with young “Modric vibe” midfielder

Igor Tudor may have been in the Tottenham Hotspur hotseat for a few days but he is already feeling the pressure.

The Croatian has already said his side will have enough to stay in the Premier League but there is a real chance they will go down.

Indeed, that Europa League triumph in Bilbao now feels like a lifetime. Since the win, Spurs have sacked both Ange Postecoglou and Thomas Frank. Neither manager has been able to produce much success at home and if they end up in the Championship, they will make Frank more suspicious than the new man, Tudor.

The future of the Lilywhites is not known yet but what is certain is that the team will need to be gutted and completely renewed in the summer, regardless of the division they play in.

While they are having problems throughout the team, it feels like the midfield is one of the biggest problems.

The biggest problem with the Spurs midfielder

Gone are the days of Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli walking through the Spurs midfield. Since those heady days under Mauricio Pochettino, the center of the park has become a growing concern for every manager.

It wasn’t long before that surprise trio was replaced by the likes of big-money signing Tanguy Ndombele and the likes of Oliver Skipp, Harry Winks and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Well, not a very inspiring list, is it?

Skipp, Winks and Hojbjerg, while active Premier League players, lacked the technical ability to really impact the game. They also lack the energy and most importantly, the ability to improve through play. None of them have the ball.

Fast forward to 2026 and Tottenham are facing the same problem. In the January window, the north Londoners welcomed Conor Gallagher to the club and on paper, it looks like a solid signing.

Gallagher has Premier League experience and has 22 England caps to his name. However, like those before him, he has problems with being able to carry the ball up the field.

Conor Gallagher has been in recent form for Spurs

In fact, that is a problem that is seen in all mediums. Tudor’s other options at the moment are Joao Palhinha, who played in defense at Arsenal, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.

Those two, in particular, are becoming a major concern for Spurs. Bissouma has been leaving for many years and it speaks volumes for the dire situation the club finds itself in at the moment to rely on a player whose career in the capital seems to have ended last summer.

Indeed, Frank left him out of the squad for the Super Cup final with what was described as ‘persistent delay’.

Sarr, meanwhile, was becoming “a big problem under Frank” in the words of JJ Bull of The Athletic and showed no signs of improvement during Tudor’s first game in charge, easily beaten by Bukayo Saka in the build-up to the first goal.

So, while Spurs will have players back from injury in 2026/27, they will need to find new alternatives. Maybe they can look towards a higher education institution to do that.

The solution for Spurs’ home ground

If they are to stay in the Premier League next season, he thinks the Lewis family will invest heavily in improving the center of the park.

However, if they are willing to save a little money and advertise internally, the Londoners have a number of quality young players in the academy to encourage them.

For all their worries, the future looks bright from the perspective of the playing staff. Bergvall and Archie Gray are improving all the time, while they signed young striker James Wilson from Hearts this winter and have Luca Williams-Barnett, Spurs’ next big prospect from the academy, coming through the ranks.

Let’s not forget about Tyrese Hall. While Wilson and Williams-Barnett are more forward-thinking players, Hall is a midfielder by trade and has been attracting attention on loan at Notts County in League 2.

Now, that’s a big step down from the Premier League, of course. However, Spurs need solutions and Hall has plenty of qualities that would make him a solid team player.

Not for one minute are we suggesting a 20-year-old can start but anyone better than Sarr and Bissouma, right?

Harsh words but if Tottenham are looking for players with a bright future in the game, then Hall ticks a lot of boxes.

So far this season, he has made 31 appearances for County, scoring six goals and providing two assists. Although he is yet to make his Spurs debut, it is believed that he can solve some of the development problems he has had in midfield. Canny’s ability to come up with goals from deep is nothing to be sniffed at.

Not only does he play as a midfielder, but basically, he often plays as an attacking midfielder. That is the role he has stood out in the Football League this season, impressing throughout the years.

If you don’t believe Hall will be good enough, then we’ll turn to White Hart Lane icon Jermain Defoe.

Speaking last year about this young midfielder, the former striker said: “Perhaps I can say that he is one of the best players of his age that I have seen in this country.

Defoe did not stop there in his evaluation of the Hall, he added: “He is someone who I believe is a Premier League footballer. He has a lot of energy, and he reminds me a little, technically, of how he is, silky, and another big statement, of that Luka Modric type of vibe, and Joe Cole.”

That’s an estimate from the best to wear a Spurs shirt and if the youngster lives up to that amount, there’s no doubt he could play a role in the Spurs midfield for years to come.

Fans will be dying to see the end of Bissouma and Sarr wearing Tottenham shirts and Hall can grant them that wish.
