Carnival Cruise Line is restricting bikini wear in the popular South Pacific, reminding passengers that local dress code expectations may be stricter than what is usually allowed on board.
Guests aboard the Carnival Splendor received a notice before the ship docked in Lifou, an island in New Caledonia, advising travelers to follow local customs and dress modestly while ashore, according to the Cruise Hive blog.
The reminder was issued ahead of the ship’s June 2 visit to the island as part of an eight-night voyage from Sydney.
