The 53-cap star will make a shock return to Man Utd on one condition

Manchester United have confirmed that Rasmus Hojlund has completed a permanent move to Napoli after agreeing a deal to sign Ederson from the striker’s former club Atalanta.

The 23-year-old arrived from Bergamo in 2023 for £64million plus £8m in potential add-ons as the Dane joined the club he grew up supporting.

But Hojlund managed 14 goals in 62 Premier League appearances and spent last season returning to Serie A with Napoli on permanent loan with Champions League qualification.

Antonio Conte’s side until the end of May created a €44m (£38m) release clause for finishing runners-up, meaning United recouped a total of €50m (£43.2m) when they did the deal last campaign.

The Premier League club said in a statement: “Rasmus Hojlund has joined Napoli on a permanent transfer. Everyone at the club would like to wish Rasmus all the best for the future.”

As one player leaves Old Trafford for Serie A, another prepares to move on.

United have been working on a deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson as they strengthen their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League next season.

Brazil captain Casemiro played his last game for the club and a team-mate deal worth 40.5m euros (£35m) and 4.5m euros (£3.9m) has been agreed.

Ederson will reportedly sign a contract until 2030 with an option for another year, with the deal set to wrap up in early July.

Fabrizio Romano: Star turned down other clubs to agree personal terms with Man Utd

United are expected to be very busy in the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old is poised to become the first signing of the Michael Carrick era after the United midfielder secured an impressive two-year deal in his interim role as manager.

United finished third in the Premier League and returned to the Champions League after a year out of European football.

The goalkeeper could return to Man Utd this summer

According to Fabrizio Romano, one man who may not follow the same path as Hojlund is goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The 30-year-old spent the season on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor, and while United hoped to make a permanent move this summer, Trabzonspor are looking for another loan deal.

This opened the door for him to return to United’s pre-season camp if an agreement could not be reached, Romano explained on his YouTube channel.

“My understanding is that Trabzonspor will negotiate with Andre Onana and Manchester United to try to keep the player for one season and on loan.

“So if they can reach an agreement before the start of the first season, Onana will go to Trabzonspor immediately.

Besides, he will join the pre-season with Man United and we will see what will happen.

Onana, who also made 53 appearances for Cameroon, played 29 times in the Super Lig this season, completing 75 percent of his passes and finishing with six points.

He could be the deputy behind Senne Lammens if Altay Bayindir leaves the club, although his £120,000-a-week wages seem too expensive for him to play.
