Rangers want to sign £40m “star” on loan

After a poor end to the season, Danny Rohl’s Rangers know they need to act quickly and swiftly in the transfer market to improve the playing squad.
They have already moved to sign Lawrence Shankland from title rivals Hearts, a major sign of intent for the 2026/27 season.
The other two key areas for the Gers seem to be strengthening the backbone of the team with plenty of players being looked at in midfield and central defence.
Dan Neil and Elliot Watt are the main targets in midfield and in defence, they continue to be paired with Casper Widell who plays for Excelsior in the Netherlands.
All three players would represent good buys but there could be a more exciting addition waiting in the wings.
Rangers could sign another striker after Shankland
While the move to sign Shankland from the Jambos came as no surprise, it was shocking to see how quickly the deal was done.
Technically the window has not yet opened. The ball has not even been kicked in the World Cup but this Scottish striker will flee to North America as a Rangers player.
It is a dream come true for the center ahead. A young Rangers fan, he has been linked with a move to Ibrox for several years now and a move to Glasgow has come true.
However, there may be more to come in the forward positions. Rangers are not activating their option to purchase Andres Skov Olsen for a purchase or loan to the right wing.
On the left side of attack, they have ambitions to bring Mikey Moore back to Scotland. That’s according to Chris Jack of Rangers Review.
Reporting on Tuesday, he revealed that Moore is a player ‘wanted by Rangers’, and also revealed that the player feels like he still has ‘unfinished business’ at Ibrox.
Whether the 18-year-old returns after spending the 2025/26 season on loan at the Light Blues will be up to Spurs. They have a new manager in the shape of Roberto De Zerbi who may like the youngster’s set of qualities.
Why Moore’s return would be a dream come true for Shankland
In Shankland, Rangers have signed an outstanding striker in the Premiership. Whatever you think of the division’s top goalscorer Tawanda Maswanhise or Hearts’ Claudio Braga, no one has done it in the same way and for as long as the new Rangers player.
In 2025/26 the Scottish player netted 16 times in the league, behind Maswanhise.
He scored just eight points last season but before that, the 30-year-old was electric. In 2023/24 Shankland scored 24 league goals and in 2022/23 the striker found the net on a further 24 occasions.
What Rohl has to make sure happens, is that Shankland’s new teammates give him plenty of scoring opportunities.
Signing Moore, even on loan again, would be a good first step in working with their new striker and presence up front. The youngster may have only scored seven goals and registered four assists for Rangers but his performances have had a bigger impact than those numbers suggest.

His valuation, according to Heart and Hands’ David Edgar has risen to £40m and it’s no surprise.
Much to Shankland’s delight when he joins, only two forwards have created more chances than Moore (7) in the Premiership and only four players have created more key passes per game (1.2) than the Spurs youngster.
When it came to passing yards per game, Moore was at the top again. Of this, only two players, Ibrahim Said (1.7) and Sebastian Touenkti (1.6), have completed more games than Rangers’ on loan (1.5).
Hailed as a “future star” by former Spurs man Gary Mabutt, there are good reasons to believe he is already a star. He was certainly one of the best players in the Premiership in 2025/26.
For Shankland, those metrics could be even more exciting if he gets a chance to partner in attack next season. If you thought the Scot was good at Hearts, he could be even better next to Moore.

Rangers could sign 22-goal star Alfredo Morelos for £4m
Rangers must push to sign the £4m-rated star who could be the equivalent of Alfredo Morelos in his first spell under Danny Rohl.
