Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) in Houston agreed to stop giving birth control pills to children, pay $10 million in fines and open a “conversion clinic” after an extensive investigation by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and the state of Texas.

The ruling concludes a multi-year investigation by Texas’ Healthcare Program Enforcement Division, which concluded that TCH fraudulently billed Texas Medicaid for “unauthorized and illegal ‘gender reassignment’ interventions,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wrote in a statement Friday.

“Under the terms of this landmark agreement, Texas Children’s will establish the first multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to providing medical care to patients who have undergone ‘gender reassignment’ procedures,” Paxton wrote.

“This Detransition Clinic will help patients reverse the damage caused by psychotherapists who harm patients by performing dangerous medical interventions in order to ‘change themselves,'” Paxton’s statement continued.

All services provided by the transition clinic will be funded by Texas Children’s and will be free to patients for the first five years of the clinic, according to Paxton.

He also pointed out that the agreement authorized TCH to fire five “awakened” doctors who operated on transgender children.

“Today is a monumental day in the struggle to stop the radical transgender movement. This historic settlement shows an institutional and fundamental cultural shift away from the idea of a rigid ‘gender’. In addition to helping to establish the very first Detransition Clinic and the protection of millions, this settlement will ensure that the child abusers who harm our children are expelled and answer his statement.

“I applaud Texas Children’s Hospital for changing course and committing to being part of the solution by agreeing to build a first-of-its-kind Detransition Clinic that will help provide free care to those who have been victimized by twisted, morally dysfunctional ideas. Under my watch, I will investigate and bring the full force of the law against any Texas hospital that tortures children with ‘devastating medical interventions.'”

In a statement, Texas Children’s Hospital, meanwhile, characterized the controversy surrounding its gender-affirming care program as “an unconscionable campaign of lies and misrepresentation.”

“Today, we have made the difficult decision to settle with the Attorney General of Texas and the Department of Justice, closing a chapter made of lies and distractions. To be clear – we are settling to protect our resources from endless and expensive lawsuits. This settlement will allow us to redirect those precious resources to focus on life-saving care and a clinical statement, without a statement found by hospital scientists, who write a comforting statement in the hospital, written hospital scientists has been removed from its website.
