The Best Option is Matvei Michkov and the Philadelphia Flyers to Make It Clear

Flyers and Matvei Michkov Need to Work Together to Help Him Succeed
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman joined Gord Stellick and Scott Laughlin on Sirius XM NHL Network Radio on Wednesday. There, he was asked if the Philadelphia Flyers were going the same way with Matvei Michkov as Trevor Zegras and the Anaheim Ducks.

Scott Laughlin: So we heard a lot of white noise about Trevor Zegras for years. And lo and behold, he’s another Philadelphia Flyers. Are we hearing the beginning of that with Matvei Michkov?”
Will the Philadelphia Flyers prioritize defense this offseason?
Elliotte Friedman: “I think the thing about Michkov is that I really like the way, one thing I really like is the way the other Flyers players met him and spoke highly of him. And I think that was important, right?”
Because one of the things you can feel like, and like, I’m not there, Gordo, I can only go by what I read, and I feel for the second time that there was no Michkov scratching there was nothing there that made me think that, because sometimes you can tell the players that they feel that that’s not right, or it shouldn’t happen, or something like that.
I didn’t see that. And that doesn’t mean things are bad. It just means that I think the players understood why he wasn’t playing at times. So I thought it was really educational and important for them to come out and support him. One thing I think though, Gordy, is that, again, this is a young guy who is still very young. He is a Russian actor in North America; there is not much around him. Old man, I used to be a ‘stranger in a strange land,’ and he has been through a lot. And I guess I’m really trying to remember what I was like in those years, and what a cement head I was.
And some people get it later than others, and you have more challenges figuring it out. And I would just, I would just think, if you’re Philly, you should tread carefully. This is a talented young man, and this was a young man who wanted to play for you. It was a great story when they got it right. And he was, he could have gone much higher in wisdom than he did.
So I think you discard such people at your peril. You should make sure that every option is finished before doing it. I really hope, and he didn’t talk too much about it yesterday (Tuesday), but I really hope he’s committed to spending a good amount of time in the Philly area this summer, because I think it sounds like something that could really help him.
Center or Defense: What Will the Philadelphia Flyers Prioritize?
But I think that you, as I said, I think that you dispose of such talents very carefully. It reminds me a lot of Vincent Lecavalier and John Tortorella. Jay Feaster said, I don’t care. He lives and lives, see for yourself.
And I think that usually with players of that talent, I think that’s the best way.”
NHLRumors.com Note: Matvei Michkov knows he entered training camp after the eight ball, which set him back. He thought his talent could carry him through the season, but with a new coach coming, he needed to prepare better. The Flyers know how good he can be, but there are still parts of his game that he needs to work on. However, with players as talented as these, you need to let them do what they do best before improving the rest of their game.
