Rangers are stepping up their £10m move to sign the English star

When Nicolas Raskin was called up to the Rangers squad at the weekend, the fans all but knew their Premiership hopes were over and gone.

The Belgian has had a topsy-turvy season, initially falling out with Russell Martin before becoming an integral part of the furniture at Ibrox again.

From 31 out of 33 league games this season, it’s safe to say that the midfielder is irreplaceable and the Gers found that out during his absence from the Old Firm through injury.

Will the 25-year-old still be in Glasgow next season? It sounds like it’s only a matter of time before he packs his bags. If that happens, fortunately, it appears the hiring team has a replacement.

Rangers are stepping up their move to sign a new midfielder

With the Gers missing out on the SPFL title and set to miss out on next season’s Champions League, it looks like Raskin will play his last few games for the Light Blues.

After 145 games, 13 goals and 23 assists, he has become a good servant. It’s a shame he will leave Scottish football behind without a trophy to his name.

However, all good things must come to an end. In his place, players like Thelo Asgaard, Connor Barron and Mohammed Diomande will all be tasked with stepping up, but none of them come close to matching the level of talent that Bobby Clark has.

Rangers’ most expensive signing of all time

The Gers now have new owners in 49ers Enterprises.

Last week, it was reported that Rangers had opened talks to sign the Liverpool midfielder and now new reports suggest they will step up their pursuit of the England international.

After moving to RB Salzburg in Austria for £10m, things have not gone well for Clark, who is now looking for a way out. Well, Rangers are interested and according to Football Insider, they are ‘ready to step up their interest’ in the midfielder.

The Austrian Bundesliga club are expected to agree to a sale and are willing to accept a reduced bid for his services. That should be music to the ears of those at Ibrox.

Why Clark would be the perfect midfielder for Rangers

With Raskin likely to leave, Danny Rohl and Co need a midfielder who can take the game to the opposition. However, in the form of Clark, they have not only signed a like-minded Belgian player but also signed an improvement on their current midfielder, Diomande.

It can be said that the player from Ivory Coast has not really hit the ground running this season. He still scored one goal in the Premiership and has three assists to his name.

Recent activities have suggested that he is not up to the task either. Charged with playing in the number 10 position against Celtic last weekend, the 24-year-old was hauled off for struggling too much.

During that loss, one that cemented the Rangers as the third-placed team in the division, Diomande failed to shoot, complete a key pass or register a dribble. Throughout the season, he has created only three big chances compared to Clark’s five.

On loan from Derby County in the Championship this season, he has impressed, registering six goals. Those aren’t mind-blowing numbers, sure, but his stats are much better than Diomande’s.

A look at the statistics tells us immediately that Clark is a much better talent than Diomande and can contribute a lot to Rohl’s side. Not only is he an improvement in the attacking areas of the pitch, but he also wins more duels and does his defensive work better than Diomande.

Clark has been around the house a bit to earn regular first-team football but the Derby loanee has shown great patience. He has always been a very talented kid as well. Newcastle writer Lee Ryder once said he reminded him of “a young Paul Gascoigne.”

As a Gers fan, that should be all the confirmation you need.
