Liverpool are in a good position to sign another Wharton as the transfer fee appears

Liverpool are now leading the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes, who is available at a bargain price this summer.
Liverpool are in a good position to sign Gomes
It was a different day, but similar problems for Liverpool against Chelsea on Saturday. The Reds were ineffective both outside and inside, their midfield problems particularly exposed.
It looks like solving those problems will be a big part of their summer transfer window, as well as replacing Mohamed Salah. On the field front, several names have already emerged as candidates.
Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is one of the standouts, but it remains to be seen whether those at Anfield are willing to match his £70m price tag in the coming months.
Instead, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes may be looking to get a bargain deal. According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are now leading the race to sign Gomes from Wolves this summer.
The Midlands club initially slapped a £60m price tag on the Brazilian, but relegation has forced them to drop that price to around €45m (£39m) for a player who is keen to leave – allowing Liverpool to get a price tag.

It’s easy to see why Liverpool love Gomes. The Brazilian will add body to what has been a weak player all season.
Only one player has won more duels than the Wolves star in the Premier League this season and that is Elliot Anderson. Meanwhile, not a single Liverpool midfielder appears in the first 25 names on the list.
£39m Gomes should replace Mac Allister
The demotion of Alexis Mac Allister was a surprise to say the least. As impressive as Ryan Gravenberch was last season, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to suggest that his fellow South American was even better. This was a World Cup winner playing at that level.
One season later, however, he looked physically depleted at the heart of Liverpool’s midfield and that problem must be resolved by signing Gomes this summer.
Liverpool fans, could Joao Gomes be better than Alexis Mac Allister this summer?
The coach of Wolves, Rob Edwards, who is called “good”, Gomes is one of the players who may return to the Premier League following the defeat of his team.
It wouldn’t be the first time that Edwards snatched a star from a relegated star. In fact, it would be a throwback, a classic move from the Anfield boss.
