The New York Yankees never had a chance to face the toughest starting pitcher of all time — and that’s not hyperbole.
Jacob Misiorowski took the mound for the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night, and he seemed to enjoy his first start against the Bronx Bombers.
In his first career inning, “Miss” threw seven pitches at least 103 mph, and he would throw three more at that speed throughout the night.

He went 103.6 mph, and now owns the seven fastest pitches of any first pitcher in the Statcast era (since 2008), all thrown against the Yanks.
His three pitches since Friday are also the ninth, 11th and 12th-most by a starter in the past 19 seasons.
The first inning was a preview of what was to come, as Misiorowski struck out 11 in six scoreless innings.

Misiorowski pitched a no-hitter in 5.1 innings before a hamstring cramp forced him out of last week’s 6-1 win over the Washington Nationals. He had five hitless innings in his MLB debut last year but had to leave that game due to cramps.
In his second start, he was as good as seventh.
Shane Drohan threw three scoreless innings to get the save, as Milwaukee beat the Yankees, 6-0.
The 24-year-old right-hander called it the best three-inning performance of his major league career, which began less than a year ago but already has many highlights.
Misiorowski won head-to-head matchups with 2025 NL Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes and three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw as a rookie. He had a 1.50 ERA in three postseason games last season.
“It’s just adrenaline,” Misiorowski said. “That’s right, you’re starting to get raped and you want to sing to your colleagues behind you because they do the same to me. That’s the whole purpose.”

Brewers manager Pat Murphy has another idea for why Misiorowski shines so brightly when the stakes seem so high.
“Miz is interested in being great,” Murphy said. “And he’s in that process of becoming great.”
