Tottenham want to sign ‘underrated’ Newcastle star who is now ‘on his way out’

Tottenham have identified one Newcastle United star as a summer transfer option if they avoid relegation from the Premier League, according to reports.

Spurs are moving to secure deals ahead of the summer window

Something is finally moving at Tottenham.

Two wins in a row, back-to-back league wins for the first time since August, and a performance at Villa Park on Sunday that prompted genuine praise from fans who have spent much of this season bemoaning the club’s decline.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side made their first relegation in almost a month with a 2-1 win at Aston Villa, lifting them one point above West Ham in 18th place with three games remaining.

The way Spurs pressed and won the ball back in advanced areas bore the hallmarks of De Zerbi’s best teams at Brighton, giving every indication that something has changed tactically since his arrival.

They are expected to launch the offer soon.

Conor Gallagher, who has been widely criticized since his arrival from Atlético Madrid, was outstanding throughout, scoring to give Spurs the lead before Richarlison’s header sealed what would have been Spurs’ best result of the entire campaign.

De Zerbi was circumspect in his response.

“It’s not finished yet,” he said.

“We have to play three more games, very difficult, starting on Monday night against Leeds.”

West Ham’s 3-0 defeat at Brentford on Saturday opened the door, and Spurs went through it – but the performance was more than likely.

Cohesion, energy, clarity of purpose all point to a team that has found a way to play under a manager who seems to have genuinely entered the dressing room in a short period of time.

West Ham’s fate is now out of their hands, with Nottingham Forest’s safety assured.

Spurs’ remaining games – Leeds at home on Monday, followed by two more tough tests – still represent a major challenge, but the club’s situation has changed dramatically.

De Zerbi himself said that he believes that Spurs can win all their remaining games, an idea that would have seemed good two days ago and now he is sitting on a firm footing.

As survival nears, the summer plans that have been quietly building behind the scenes are starting to take shape.

Two important deals are already in place in principle.

Andy Robertson will join Liverpool on a free transfer when his contract expires, while Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi has an agreement with the club on a permanent move.

However, both are conditional on Spurs remaining in the Premier League, which only adds to the motivation for the run.

Tottenham are looking to make a move for outgoing Newcastle star Tino Livramento

Now, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, a third target has emerged.

Tino Livramento is now on Tottenham’s radar this summer, with reports identifying the Newcastle defender as a player whose availability could spark the market for several English clubs at the same time.

The 23-year-old is said to be “on his way out” at St James’ Park, amid links to Arsenal and Man City, with Spurs now named as the third English club to monitor the situation.

Livramento picked up a groin injury against Bournemouth and is likely to have played his last game for Newcastle this season, with the club open to a move in excess of £70 million due to his reluctance to sign a new deal and their need to balance the books this summer.

His versatility – he is comfortable on both sides – and his quality when fit make him an attractive option at right-back, a position Spurs need to address regardless of who else arrives.

Livramento, who have been called ‘defensively too weak’, are also the team that will enter Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad if he is fit enough by then.

The Southampton star’s previous season has been severely curtailed by injury throughout 2025/2026, but if he is fit and available, he is a firm starter for Eddie Howe’s side.

While survival comes first, rebuilding can really begin, and the Lilywhites will secure a statement signing with Livramento if they can win the tough competition.

Tottenham are ready to sell the big-name player after getting the green light at a 50% discount.

He has lost his ‘untouchable’ status.
