Chelsea ready to hire Xavi ‘one of the best managers in the world’

After winning the Club World Cup last summer, many Chelsea fans were undoubtedly expecting the big club to reach the next level in the Premier League.
However, after one change of management, six defeats in a row, it is now almost certain that the Blues will miss out on Champions League qualification.
As a result, BlueCo will now have a big summer on their hands to find the right man to try and get the club back on track under Enzo Maresca.
Liam Rosenior showed that he was not up to leading the club forward, which would have made the team turn to a more successful player to succeed.
A number of managers have been tipped for the vacant managerial position, but it remains to be seen who will be in charge in the summer.

Chelsea are holding internal discussions about approaching a new manager
A few days ago, former Barcelona boss Xavi became the latest manager to be tipped to take over at Chelsea ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The 46-year-old has been unemployed since leaving the Spanish giants in May 2024, but has previously been linked with Premier League rivals Manchester United.
Although it has been said that he may be hired at Stamford Bridge, the management continues to do everything they can for players like Xabi Alonso.
According to The Independent, the Blues are holding internal talks about hiring the 44-year-old, who is on a free transfer after leaving Real Madrid earlier this campaign.
The report claims that the Spaniard has admirers behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge, but it is unclear if he will be offered the job any time soon.
As a countryman, he would be open to managing the Premier League, but he is also interested in other English sides, Manchester United and Liverpool.
Why Alonso would be better than Chelsea’s Xavi
Both of the aforementioned managers are still in the early stages of their managerial careers, which may cause concern among Chelsea fans that they may emulate Rosenior by failing to deliver.
However, during his nearly three-year spell at Barcelona, the Spaniard won the LaLiga title in 2023/24 – doing so while achieving a 64% win rate.
His two-year spell without a job could be of great concern to those in West London, with caution needing to be aired should they approach a potential target.
Alonso also being in the squad could lead to a battle between the Spaniards looking for the job, but the manager needs to pursue the former more.
Described as “one of the best managers in the world” by Carlo Ancelotti, during his two managerial stints, the midfielder has impressed, as evidenced by the impressive numbers he produced at Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid.
The 44-year-old’s best spell arguably came in Germany, with Alonso doing the unthinkable in his second season in charge of the Bundesliga outfit.

He managed to win the club its first top-flight title in such a campaign, and did so despite going unbeaten – a remarkable achievement.
Alonso also added the DFB Pokal to Leverkusen’s trophy cabinet in the same season, when he faced the final hurdle against Atalanta in the Europa League final.
Even in his short time at Real Madrid, he managed to impress, after which he won 71% of his games before being controversially sacked in January.
All the numbers mentioned above are more than those produced by Xavi during his career, and also scoring many titles since he joined the management.
Due to his success in the pit, Alonso has been widely praised, with commentator and Como scout Ben Mattinson even calling him a “world-class coach”.
It’s rare for managers as successful as Alonso to be found without compensation, and Chelsea desperately need to capitalize on such an opportunity.
Xavi would still be an admirable selection given the recent struggles at Stamford Bridge, but in the end, he’s not on his compatriot’s level.
The former Real Madrid manager’s deal will allow fresh ideas and a successful manager to finally put the Blues on the right track with a chance at Premier League glory.
