Slot must bench Liverpool flop winner 3/12 duels

Liverpool extended their winning streak to three games in all competitions with a win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in the Premier League on Sunday.

Alexis Mac Allister scored in stoppage time to seal all three points for the Reds, having had a goal ruled out by a handball minutes before the only stoppage time goal.

The Reds fans are still worried for the second time that this midfielder got a goal because Virgil van Dijk was offside, but it was found that he was on the side of the youngest.

While the officials may have been frustrating the fans and the team, due to the circumstances surrounding both of Mac Allister’s ‘goals’, it was the Liverpool players who were the most frustrating.

In the next Premier League match against West Ham, Arne Slot may want to leave out both of his wide players after playing against Forest.

Why Liverpool need to change both of their players

Cody Gakpo started on the left side for the Reds and should be dropped against the Hammers due to his disappointing form in the team.

The Dutchman has scored one goal and provided no assists in his last 11 games in all competitions, as well as one goal and no assists in his last 12 Premier League outings.

He is not the only winner to be ruled out of the firing line against West Ham, however, as Mohamed Salah should also be ruled out of the side, for the second time this season.

Gakpo and Salah lost the ball 28 times between them and created only one chance, while failing to register any shots on target, as Liverpool struggled to create much of the game.

The winning strike came after both players had already been withdrawn from the game and Rio Ngumoha came off the bench to complete two dribbles and create another ‘big chance’ just 13 minutes into the game.

While Salah and Gakpo had to be sent off for poor performances on Sunday, there was one Liverpool player who was worse than either of them.

Slot has a few big decisions to make in the game against West Ham because several players failed to step up and perform, despite the win, against Forest.

Liverpool suffered an unwanted setback in the warm-up when Florian Wirtz pulled up and needed to leave the matchday squad at the last minute, meaning Curtis Jones replaced him in the XI.

Unfortunately, the player who replaced Wirtz on the team ended up being the worst performer in the slot, as Jones struggled throughout his time on the field.

In 83 minutes on the field, the Englishman created more chances for Forest (three) than he did for Liverpool (zero), and three mistakes led to the opposition team being shot. His slow passing in his half brought the team down numerous times, three of which resulted in a shootout.

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones

There were too many times when Jones held the ball too long, delayed a pass or drive, and ended up giving the ball away.

In addition to his struggles for Liverpool, the central midfielder also lost many of his opponents, winning just three of 12, and did not make a single one in 83 minutes.

So, Jones, he let the team down with his work on and off the ball for the Reds because he couldn’t play the ball, he made a lot of mistakes, and he was very weak on the ball.

He was worse than Gakpo and Salah because none of Liverpool’s starters made a mistake that led to a shot, and none of them missed a ‘big chance’, like Jones did.

The slot could move Joe Gomez to right back and move Dominik Szoboszlai back to the middle of the park to take Jones out of the lineup, if Wirtz misses any future games with the injury that kept him out of Sunday’s game.
