How I went from metal shot to total control

Welcome to Full Fit 2026the new GOLF platform to give you real-golfer insight into which 2026 gears might best suit your game. So far, we’ve brought together six GOLF content creators of varying abilities and sent them through a six-pack full-size golf bag (driver to putter!) at six major club manufacturers in Phoenix and Carlsbad, Calif. We hope that you may see the shadows of your game in one of our editors and learn something and inspiration from their relevant experience. In this installment (below), Wadeh Maroun details the clubs he can’t live without from Fully Fit 2026, his TaylorMade P770 irons. You can browse our full 2026 dream bags individually here:

Going into Fully Fit, I thought I knew what kind of equipment was right for my game. Safe to say, I was very wrong, especially when it came to my arrest.
A little background: Two years ago, I started the journey to become a real golfer. I got lessons and reworked my swing. Before that, I played a cut and hit down on the ball, which caused early extension and left my hand-eye coordination to tell the batting ball – “sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s maybe s—.” At that time I was on 5 years of disability. I needed help.
Then came the pivot.
The course program has changed my swing to be less prone to early extension and I am more prepared to hit higher on the ball than lower. It sounded simple enough in theory, but the real-world impact was missing.
This new approach created a big problem from the 8-iron down. I began to notice the north-south divide. The ball wasn’t going where I wanted, and I had lost all the confidence I had before in my irons and strings. Ideally, I’m a very athletic, athletic player by nature, and that combination was no bueno.
Enter the moment of truth: a fitting session at The Kingdom with Matt Simone.
Matt is the kind of person who makes you believe in the process and not the end result. We started playing with lofts, chasing a theoretical fix that would help me cover the ball further and prevent it from running across the face. The idea was simple on paper: the stiff peaks should control the launch and rotate enough to bring my numbers closer to the target.
What happened next felt like a revelation.
The changes started to become stronger in a way that surprised me. I had a feeling I hadn’t had in a long time: I trusted my instruments to do their job. The result was a real, tangible improvement in how I could control distance and trajectory, and, most importantly, hopefully the club would do what I asked without fighting my swing. It wasn’t magic, but it changed my relationship with the game in a meaningful way.
Fast forward to now: I ended up with a TaylorMade P770 iron, and the arc of my journey felt like a straight line to a better game.

In just three months, I went from having 2 disabilities to 1 disability. Skiing doesn’t feel like a constant battle and it’s more like working with the gear I’m using. The confidence I have gained is not about chasing a perfect number; it’s about knowing that I can pull any iron, hit my number, close it, and walk away from the round without giving up three or four shots to avoidable mistakes.
Scratching is still on the horizon, but I’m closer than ever. And I credit a lot of that progress to being intentional about my equipment and trusting the process.
When I pull the iron now, I don’t ask myself if I have the right model or loft. I look at the shot in front of me, I feel the club react the way I expect it to and I let that confidence take over.
If you’re chasing consistency, I’d give you the same advice: start with gear that matches your swing, not the other way around, and give yourself room to grow into it.
