Elliotte Friedman, on Friday’s 32 Thoughts Podcast with Kyle Bukauskas, discussed the Detroit Red Wings situation involving General Manager Steve Yzerman. Yzerman made some bold statements during his press conference Thursday, saying the Red Wings need better players. It’s up to him to do that, but he still feels like his team isn’t there yet.

It’s Time for the Detroit Red Wings to Add Some NHL-Caliber Players
Elliotte Friedman: “And I don’t know if anybody watched Detroit, but man Yzerman looked crazy. Yeah, he looked like you could tell he was crazy. And there’s still a lot to play for there. He left it open, like he said, I’ll see it all. I’m not going anywhere, and I wouldn’t expect him to come out. his arms so he didn’t try to fix it and make it work, but he left an open opportunity for the building to change.
And he really talked about player changes. Another thing I suspected was that last year he was criticized even internally for not coming out and helping them. Even this year he helped us and still didn’t win, you could see that he was angry with the players. And I think if you look at how hard Todd McClellan was on the Red Wings players after that last game, the 8-1 loss in Florida, and I think everybody understood why he felt that way.
Yzerman-McClellan up there together and Yzerman giving him a 100% vote of confidence. That was the message, and the message was the group I put together; it’s not good enough. And we already knew that because they didn’t come in. But sometimes the management will defend it, saying that we were not ready. We had bad luck, maybe an injury.
No, he wasn’t sugarcoating anything. That’s what we talked about how Yzermann agreed that he will not pay the prices, and especially the employment. Big summer for him, he’s been there, he’s put everyone on notice. It’s hard to predict if they don’t like it I think it’s one of those things. If they don’t make a big trade this summer or a big move this summer, people will be shocked. And he has gone to the place where he has to do it.”
What will happen to Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings?
Kyle Bukauskas: “It’s something when he talked about him and Kris Draper talking about the team, and before things went wrong in March, and going, I’m not sure we’re going as well as our record says right now, and we’re making a deadline to try to improve them. eyes on the ice night after night, they’re going, we’re not close.”
Friedman: “I’m glad you brought that up, Kyle, because that was really interesting to me, too.
