Gord Stellick: “On the positive side, the story of the Buffalo Sabers, on the negative side, July 1 could be a tough day for your job, our job, unrestricted free agency.

Elliotte Friedman: “Sorry Gord, cut out there for a second.”

Stellick: “Just talk about Alex Tuch in terms of unrestricted free agency.”

Friedman: “I heard there’s still some space. Now, again, I haven’t heard anything recently that’s closed. It’s believed that Tuck wants a number close to Adrian Kempe. And Kempe is in the $10.5 million range.

I heard earlier this season that they offered him something, when Kevyn Adams was GM, they offered him something about Tage Thompson’s number, which was at a seven-year low, and that wasn’t going to happen. And then I heard at the Olympics that he was going up to the middle eight, and that was not going to happen.

And I’m not sure if there’s been any movement of that since then. I think this will come down to how the playoffs go. Like, I think if they do well, and he has a good game, I don’t know how they can’t sign him.

And in the end, I think it’s his choice to stay with her. He comes from there. He built a beautiful new home there. It sounds to me like everyone is going to have to bend a little where I last heard they were.”

Alex Tuch Says Talks Are Suspended For Now

Before Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Buffalo Sabers forward Alex Tuch was asked by Greg Wyshynski about the uncertainty he faces this year, without a contract as an unrestricted free agent. Tuch says the negotiations were put aside to focus on playing hockey.

Greg Wyshynski: “You don’t have a contract this season. You’re an unrestricted free agent. You’ve had a GM change at the top. You have this season, this dream season for the Sabers. What was it like for you to have that kind of uncertainty and a back burner job while all these other things happened this year?”

NHL Rumors: Buffalo Sabers Need To Re-Sign Alex Tuch

Alex Tuch: “You know what? Winning makes it a lot easier. It makes it a lot easier. Winning a lot of games makes it a lot easier, makes it a lot more fun. We’ve had conversations and everything, but lately, we’ve decided, you know what, it’s better to go out and play hockey. There’s no immediate timeline or anything like that. I’m going to focus on being a good player and I’m going to focus on playing hockey at the end. in the playoffs as much as possible.

And I’ve always been concerned about what controls me, and that’s my work ethic every day, and how I get to the rink, and how I am as a teammate and as a person. That’s all I’ve been focused on, especially in the last month or so after the trade deadline, and I’ve been able to just settle down and play some hockey, and that’s it. Victory cures everything. It happens. Success cures everything.”
