State Department orders evacuation of Beirut embassy amid threat of attack on Iran

The US State Department ordered non-emergency personnel to evacuate the US Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon on Monday.

The department did not provide information on the reason for the release of the incident. The move comes as President Donald Trump ordered a military buildup in the Middle East and made threats against the Iranian regime.

“The Department of State has ordered the evacuation of non-emergency U.S. government employees and eligible family members from the U.S. Embassy in Beirut,” the State Department said.

“We are continuously evaluating the security environment, and based on our latest review, we have decided that it is prudent to limit our measures to essential personnel. The embassy is still working with key personnel in the area. This is a temporary measure intended to ensure the safety of our personnel while maintaining our ability to operate and assist US citizens,” the statement continued.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has tightened its grip on Hezbollah in Lebanon amid fears of possible US strikes, according to reports.

According to the Jerusalem PostThe change in strategy comes as Hezbollah and Iran prepare for a military confrontation in the region, with analysts warning that if Washington directly strikes the regime, Hezbollah is ready to “act.”

“If the regime in Tehran feels threatened, the likelihood of unleashing Hezbollah against Israel and US regional assets increases dramatically,” Ross Harrison, senior fellow at the Middle East Institute, told Fox News Digital.

“Hezbollah will not act immediately, unless the attack immediately targets the leadership of the Islamic Republic. But as part of a comprehensive response, Hezbollah will likely be seen as an asset,” he said.

“If faced with an existential threat, Iran may be alert and try to use Hezbollah at the top,” explained Harrison, author of “Decoding Iran’s Foreign Policy.”

Trump previously gave Iran a 10- to 15-day deadline to respond to the deal, raising questions about what steps Washington could take if Tehran fails to comply.

A new round of interviews are now scheduled Thursday in Geneva is also expected to focus on Iran’s nuclear program, including uranium enrichment levels and easing sanctions.
